Chamber Music course for string quartets and Big Band course for wind and brass.

The Six Day DYO Summer Course at Aravon is designed to cater for the needs of experienced chamber music players at intermediate and senior levels.
TUITION
Players will:
- Explore a rich and varied repertoire of chamber music
- Have the opportunity to play in various string ensembles including cello and viola groups and full string orchestra.
- Perform in nightly informal concerts and in the end-of –course concert.
- Senior players are encouraged to apply as a quartet and to pre-select the works that they wish to study.
BIG BAND
The Big Band Course – directed by Eimear O’Brien – provides an exciting opportunity for wind and brass players:
- Explore the repertoire of a Big Wind and Brass Band.
- Includes Jazz, Swing and Blues.
- Players will also be able to play in smaller chamber music ensembles.

Orla MhicAthlaoich, Eimear O’Brien, Una O’Kane, Theresa Thomas, Ken Rice, Vanessa Sweeney.
Guest Tutor Elizabeth Cooney

We are pleased to welcome Elizabeth Cooney as our guest tutor. Elizabeth has performed as a soloist with the RTE NSO, RTE Concert Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Liszt Chamber Orchestra of Hungary, Slovenian Philharmonic, Musica Vitae, Sweden among many others.
She has taught at the RIAM and at the Royal College of Music in London. Elizabeth also coaches violin and string sections of the NYOI.
All groups will spend some time with Elizabeth and benefit from her considerable experience. More information on Elizabeth can be found on her website: www.elizabethcooney.eu/
DAILY ROUTINE
The day starts with a dip in the pool (optional) and breakfast.
From 9am to 4.30pm students will participate in chamber music tuition, orchestra groups and other workshops, with a break for lunch and a swim.
This is followed by sports activities, dinner, free time and an evening concert at 8pm. Non-residents are free to go home at 9pm.
All meals are provided.

ARAVON
Aravon School overlooks Dublin Bay and Bray Head. It provides an idyllic, secluded setting, and full use of the grounds is made during the course for outdoor activities.
Extra activities include swimming, rounders, Unihoc, orienteering, football, tennis, drama and the annual “Aravon’s Got Talent” show!
Adult members of staff are in residence at all times. Sports staff are in attendance at each of the three daily swim sessions.

Costs are kept down by the use of voluntary help. Offers of help from parents during the course are crucial.
Dublin Youth Orchestras is a not-for-profit organisation supported by annual subscription of the player members.

FEES
- Residential €495
- Non-residential €430
- €50 reduction for each subsequent member of one family on the course
- Non-members of DYO must pay a €15 family membership to the DYO Association.
SCHOLARSHIPS & SUBSIDIES
A limited number of scholarships/subsidies are available. Please call or email for further information.
Residential places are limited. The places are allocated at the discretion of the committee. DYO reserves the right of admission to the courses.
